| Microsoft Philippines released Windows 8 to the local market on Tuesday, October 30, just a few days after the Operating System's (OS's) global launch the Friday before. The OS is now available in over 30 certified devices, and a broad selection of local apps are already available in the onboard Windows Store. It is also available for download onto PCs and other devices running previous iterations of Microsoft's Windows OS. "This platform can seamlessly bridge the gap between PCs, laptops, tablets and mobile phones, to create a no-compromise experience for all," said Karrie Capellan-Ilagan, Managing Director, Microsoft Philippines. Windows 8 touts quick startup and multi-touch support, and a Live Tile interactive interface that offers real-time update capability from the cloud. New devices from Microsoft's partner manufacturers —including Asus, Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Samsung, Sony and Toshiba— will soon be available for retail at select outlets nationwide. Microsoft has also tied up with local businesses to develop Philippine-specific apps for Windows 8, including Meralco for electricity information; the MMDA for traffic information; LBC for courier services; and Cebu Pacific for travel information. | |
